  1. Excessive speed is the main cause of accidents on gravel roads. Always keep to a speed limit of 60 – 80 km/h.
  2. Stay focused while driving. Long distances and light traffic can reduce concentration, increasing the risk of accidents.
  3. Pay attention to road traffic signs, especially those indicating gentle or sharp turns. Reduce your speed as needed.
  4. Switch on your headlights in dusty or low-visibility conditions so other road users can see you clearly.
  5. Reduce speed when passing oncoming traffic and keep to the left side of the road as far as safely possible.
  6. Maintain correct tyre pressure to ensure your vehicle grips the road properly. Check your tyres and tyre pressure daily.
  7. Avoid driving at night if possible. Poor visibility and increased wildlife movement make it dangerous.
  8. In rainy or wet conditions, be aware of slippery roads, wash-aways, and running or stagnant water. Adjust your speed accordingly.
  9. Watch for wild animals on the road and slow down immediately when spotted.
  10. Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times for full control.
  11. Always drive from the driver’s seat. Do not attempt to drive from the hood or any other unsafe position.
  12. Adjust your driving style according to the condition of the gravel road. Elephants or other wildlife: slow down immediately!
  13. NEVER drive with your left foot on the clutch or ride the clutch when off-road. Doing so will damage the vehicle’s clutch.
